Fiona Sturgeon Shea:
Creative Director

Fiona has worked in senior roles for several important theatre companies in England and Scotland, including two separate stints at Scotland's new writing theatre,  the Traverse (as Marketing Manager in the 1990s and Head of Communications from 2009-2011).  She also worked for the Citizens Theatre and the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond, Surrey. Fiona recently held posts in the public sector with the Scottish Arts Council and the Scottish Government/National Health Service. She  joined Playwrights' Studio in July 2011.  General areas of responsibility include:

  • Meeting with playwrights, theatre companies and other theatre artists
  • Leading play development projects and selecting the plays and playwrights for development
  • Developing programmes of activity for playwrights and members of the public interested in playwriting
  • Forging partnerships with other arts organisations
  • Building relationships with companies overseas to increase international opportunities for playwrights and their work
  • Influencing Creative Scotland and the Scottish Government on relevant policies and practice


Emma McKee:
General Manager

Emma joined Playwrights' Studio in November 2009 as the company's Administrator. Prior to joining the organisation, Emma worked as Office Manager at Borderline Theatre Company for 3 years and for 2 years as their Administration, Research and Marketing Assistant. She has a degree in Archaeology from University of Glasgow.

General areas of responsibility include:

  • Delivery of projects, co-ordination of personnel and travel/accommodation, scheduling, marketing and promotion, attendance at events
  • Finance and administration management
  • Funding and fundraising 


Hayley Sinclair:
Communications & Projects Co-ordinator

Hayley joined Playwrights' Studio in January 2017. Hayley graduated from Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) in 2009 with an MA in Classical and Contemporary Text and has worked in Communications, Marketing and Administration in both the private and public sector.

General areas of responsibility include:

  • Project management for activities including National Script Reading Service, Mentoring Programme, New Playwrights Awards, Public Workshop Programme
  • Leading communications strategy and dealing with general enquiries
  • Website development and maintenance 
  • Assisting with company reporting
  • Advocacy and representing the company at events
  • Day to day office management


Alasdair Mitchell:
Administration & Communications Assistant

Alasdair joined Playwright's Studio in January 2017. Prior to joining the organisation, Alasdair worked for the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh International Science Festival and Royal Lyceum Theatre in a variety of customer service and communications roles. He graduated with a degree in Law from the University of Aberdeen in 2014.

General areas of responsibility include:

  • Project Administration for activities including the National Script Reading service, Bookshop and Library, the Space, Tom McGrath Writers' Room and Associated Events i.e. Stage to Page
  • Communications/General Enquiries
  • Advocacy and representing the company at events
  • Day to day office management
