Beast by Liam McCormick (Formation Festival)
BEAST is a one hour multimedia performance that mixes spoken-word, verbatim theatre and investigative journalism.
GAG presents Beast, a show about abuse, survival and the journey toward recovery. Beast is a show that challenges men to take an unflinching look at their behaviour and asks how, if at all, peace can be found.
The show tells the story of two sexual assault survivors,
Zara and John, as they try to piece their lives back together. On
their journey they encounter Rugby Boys, Pick-Up-Artists, high
level politicans and a nation-wide network of vigilante 'hunters'
of alleged sex-offenders. It challenges men to take an unflinching
look at their behaviour, and asks how - if it is possible at all-
to break the cycle of violence.
The show began life as a ten minute performance commissioned by BBC 1xtra for the Contains Strong Language festival 2017. A collection of poetry was then published by Burning Eye Books. The show was longlisted for SMHA Mental Health at the Fringe Award 2018.
