Jock Tamson's Bairns (Scottish Tour)

No topic is taboo, but a respect for your fellow humans is compulsory.

You go to a club to watch some drag. The music is great. The performances are on point, the booze is flowing freely and the room is filled with laughter. Someone says something stupid. Possibly homophobic. Possibly sexist. Do you challenge them?

Exploring queer culture and the bystander effect, Jock Tamson's Bairns is a brand new immersive show created and presented by Civil Disobedience  ( Scottish Culture Awards 'Ones to Watch' finalists), where the audience is transported to an after hours gay bar and invited to speak their mind.

No topic is taboo, but a respect for your fellow humans is compulsory.

For our debut season throughout LGBT History Month 2019, Jock Tamson's Bairns will explore the universal issues of equality, belonging and finding your tribe.

Mixing scripted elements of stand up, storytelling, cabaret and drag with a variety of guest performances and audience interaction, music, spoken word, theatre, and the punters take centre stage in this semi-improvised 90-minute show.

"A traditional tale relates how a man walking along a beach sees a boy throwing stranded starfish into the waves. When asked why he's doing this, the boy replies that with the ebbing tide, the starfish will die from exposure. The man points out that there are miles and miles of beach and thousands of stranded starfish. What difference could the boy make? The boy bends down, returning another starfish to the ocean, and replies: 'It makes a difference to this one'"
