Tom McGrath Writers' Room

What is it?

The Tom McGrath Writers’ Room, located next to our office on the Cultural Tenants floor, is a quiet, private room available to playwrights who need space for writing, round-the-table script development, or reading sessions with easy access to our Plays Library. It is the perfect place for playwrights to focus on their work or meet with collaborators in a welcoming, supportive setting.

Use of the Writers’ Room is completely free for playwrights. Other users can use the room but may be asked to make a small donation to Playwrights’ Studio’ work. The room is available Monday to Thursday for individual bookings and on Fridays for communal hotdesking. The room is open from 10.30am-5.30pm each day (10.30am-4.30pm on a Monday).

Priority will be given to playwrights or writer led projects and can be booked for one to four days per week.

Whilst the Writers’ Room is a flexible and creative environment, it is not suitable for rehearsals or auditions, due to its location next to our office and on a floor where other cultural organisations are based.

Coming in to the Writers’ Room is, for me, like coming in to the office: it’s a calm, focused space that lets me leave everything else outside and concentrate on the work.

I can go and talk to the Playwrights’ Studio team or meet people for lunch at the cafe downstairs. It’s a joy to use the space and gives me a chance to meet other writers.
