Routes In – For Writers

As of May 2026, A Play, A Pie and A Pint will now be running in-house script submission windows. As part of this new venture, we have been reconsidering what our ‘routes in’ for writers are and putting work into ensuring these routes in are clearly communicated and that they work for every writer, at every career level, to support writers throughout the year.

The result is a year-round programme consisting of:

• Two annual open submission windows to read new work

• One annual playwriting prize (the David MacLennan Award)

• Three annual scratch nights (A Slice of the Pie) to develop new work

We hope these routes serve every writer at every career level.

Window 1 – Emerging Playwrights
