Open Scripts

Open Scripts is a new script submission opportunity from Bijli Productions. There’s a ton of global majority talent in Scotland and we want to support artists and writers who are creating innovative new work for the stage.

We know how important dramaturgy and meaningful feedback can be in the development of a script. We offer feedback year round for a small fee, but we hope to provide this fee free opportunity annually. Through Open Scripts, we’ll select the first 15 eligible submissions for dramaturgical support and feedback from the Bijli team and our network of experienced dramaturgs.

This is an open call, not a competition. There’s no fee, and submissions are reviewed in the order they are received — so early submission is encouraged. After we receive the first 15 scripts, we will close the submission portal (for now).

Who and What We are Looking For

We want to hear from writers and artists who:

• Identify as part of the Global Majority (Black, Asian, Middle East (West Asian), Latinx and other indigenous ethnically diverse backgrounds)

• Are based in Scotland

• Are developing new writing for theatre or live performance

• Would like to engage in receiving constructive dramaturgical feedback

You might be an emerging writer finding your voice, or an experienced playwright exploring a new form. Experience level does not matter. What matters most is that you have a story that can be realised on a stage in front of a live audience. But don’t let any traditional constraints limit you. Think about how best the form can tell the story you want to tell.

How to Submit

To submit, please complete the Open Scripts Submission Form and upload your script (maximum 75 pages or one full play script).
