Nightclass

£8.99

John McGrath

Nightclass features songs and agitprop, deftly intercut, often to ironic effect, with nuanced interplay between the five characters. Sharp wit alternates with painful revelation. Four lonely people drift into a night class on the English or British constitution, each hoping that for a few quid a qualified expert will show them how that elusive monster holds the secrets to their plights and desperation. The youngish patronizing lefty lecturer persuades them to fiddle the class numbers so he will be paid. Between his attacks on the monarchy and bogus democracy, he makes an unsuccessful pass at the young grieving woman. As he's being ratted out, the students find they can learn a lot from each other...
